Jimmy Stream Conservation Area

Location and Description:

Location: Litchfield, ME

Property Description: The forty-two Jimmy Stream Conservation Area was conserved in July 2024. This publicly accessible conservation easement in Litchfield protects hardwood and softwood forests as well as wetlands and riparian forest, all important habitats for Maine’s wildlife species.

Now permanently protected, the property features two miles of trails that are open to the public for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, birdwatching, and other low-impact outdoor activities. Trails are maintained by the White family, friends, and neighbors including conservation manager Craig White, Dian's son.  Visitors can meander along wooded paths with 19th-century stone walls, admire seasonal vistas of Oak Hill to the west, and explore Jimmy Stream.

The Conservation Area also provides public access to Jimmy Pond at a small hand-carry boat launch. Jimmy Pond is in the Tacoma Lakes chain which also includes Buker, Sand, Woodbury, and Little Purgatory Ponds. Forty-acre Jimmy Pond is a warm water fishery with small and largemouth bass and white perch and a maximum depth of thirty-two feet.

Directions: From Monmouth: Take the South Monmouth Road to Days Corner; Cross Route 126 and then turn take the next right onto Oak Hill Road. Continue for approximately 2.5 miles and turn left onto Gustin Rd. The parking lot will be on the left after a half mile.

Usage and Trails:

Allowable uses: Hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, birdwatching, and other low-impact outdoor activities. Hunting is not permitted on this property. Dogs are allowed on a leash or under voice control. There is water access to Jimmy Stream by a small hand-carry boat launch.
