KLT 30th Anniversary Art Show at The Harlow

KLT is honored to announce that in celebration of its 30th Anniversary, an exhibition will be held from October 25 through November 30, 2019 at The Harlow in Hallowell. The title of the show is Art and the Land.

Since 1988, KLT has worked cooperatively with landowners and communities to conserve the forests, shorelands, fields, and wildlife that define central Maine. Additionally, we offer opportunities for people to learn about and enjoy the natural world. These 40 works of art are an invitation for you to learn about and enjoy the Kennebec River and Lakes region: from Potter’s Brook in the Webber-Rogers Farmstead Conservation Area in Litchfield; to Surry Hill Community Forest in Fayette; and special places in between.

KLT uses science for our conservation planning, but our work is also informed by culture. For example, Vaughan Woods & Historic Homestead in Hallowell, interpreted here by several artists, has valuable wildlife habitat, but also a rich, 200-year history, and it continues to be a community hub for neighbors and visitors. Parker Pond Headlands Preserve is a natural area that protects water quality in the Pond, but it is also a place to hike and swim and enjoy the solitude of the woods. Beautiful places attract many people, but artists have a special way of distilling the most significant  features of a place and allowing the public to see it as they do. Like scientists’ careful study of nature, these artists’ observations and interpretations enrich our understanding of the world around us.  For more information about KLT and our featured properties, please visit www.tklt.org
