Let in the Light: Encouraging Old Apple Trees at Curtis Homestead, Leeds

Join Penny and Reed Markley, previous owners of Lakeside Orchard in Manchester, and experienced pruners, for a brief presentation about how to prune old apple trees. Following the presentation, Penny and Reed will lead a hands-on project where the group will work together to improve the old apple trees at KLT’s Curtis Homestead, the childhood home of former Maine Governor Kenneth M. Curtis, Rebecca Curtis Meredith, and Joyce Curtis. Informational handouts will be provided.

Interested in learning about grafting?:

Grafters Unite! Cumston Public Library will hold a grafting workshop on Friday, Feb 26 at 6:30 pm.  The program is for anyone interested in learning more about grafting fruit trees.  Various grafting methods will be demonstrated, and instructional handouts provided.  Beginners are welcome, and experienced grafters are urged to come and share their knowledge.  Feel free to bring a tool and some green whips (3/8 to 3/4 inch diameter) for practice. The workshop will be held in the library's program room on the lower level of Cumston Hall, Main St., Monmouth.  FMI, call the library at 933-4788.
