Second Edition of Take a Hike! Hiking Guide Available December 1

During this difficult year, time in the outdoors, trails close to home, and publicly accessible conservation land have become more important than ever. Now, just in time for the holidays, we’re excited to announce the publication of the second edition of our popular Take a Hike!  hiking guide.

The beautiful second edition of Take a Hike! features fifty miles of trails and includes twelve new properties, as well as updates to the trails and maps featured in the 2014 edition. These thirty-two conservation lands include hilltop and shoreline properties and lake islands. Each page features a unique property and includes directions, a map showing trails and lake access points, and recommended public uses and recreational opportunities.

The publication of Take a Hike! was made possible by the time and expertise of LPK, a global brand design and innovation agency in Cincinnati, Ohio. LPK is committed to making a positive difference in people’s lives - socially, economically and environmentally. Mort Libby (1937-2017), former CEO of LPK, was a founding member of KLT. Mort’s wife Barbara is an East Winthrop summer resident and a long-time member of the KLT Advisory Board. Current CEO of LPK, Sarah Tomes shared,

“We believe in the power of nature to inspire and heal. Conservation efforts, like those led by KLT, are essential so that generations to come can experience these gifts and we’re proud to be a part of this effort.”

Take a Hike! will be available starting in early December at local stores and the KLT office, as well as A Lakeside Studio Pottery’s booth at the Wayne Holiday Stroll on December 5 and 6. It can also be pre-ordered online at https://www.tklt.org/merchandise/guide. The price is $18, tax included.

In the words of Maine author Robert Kimber,

This second edition of Kennebec Land Trust's Take a Hike! is your passport to more than thirty-two gem landscapes close to home: forests, meadows, hill country, lands bordering on lakes, ponds, and streams ˗ all right here in central Maine.

Thanks to the landowners who have cooperated with the Kennebec Land Trust to protect these lands by sale or donation to KLT or by conservation easement held by the Trust, these properties are now protected for all time and are open to the public to enjoy.

We also thank the Wabanaki who live on these lands today as they have for untold generations, whose dedication and care for them we would do well to emulate.
