Obituary: Mary (Brown) Parlee

PARLEE, Mary Brown Of Somerville, formerly of Waban, June 27, 2018. Beloved wife of Joseph A. Bauer Jr. Devoted mother of Elizabeth Parlee of Somerville. Loving step mother of Christopher Bauer of Westwood, his late wife Angela, Wendy Bauer of Springfield, Joseph A. Bauer IV of Framingham and the late Bridget Bauer. Loving grandmother of Samuel and Theodore Kahn, Christopher Bauer, his wife Pearl, Tania Bauer Rosser, Jessica Leigh Bauer Cheney, her husband Ryan, Kelvin Bauer, Diana Bauer, Hali, Max and Emily Castleman. Loving great grandmother of Angela Leigh Rosser and Michael Joseph Rosser. Sister of Grant Brown, his wife Arlene of Pittsburgh, Barbara Brown Clarke of Danielson, CT. Loving Aunt of Matthew Brown, Paul Brown, his wife Erin, Heather Clarke, Jessica Clarke Moon and her husband Steve. An accomplished academic, Mary pioneered groundbreaking research on premenstrual syndrome and later gender issues. She was a devoted mother and grandmother accompanying her grandsons to many of their sports events. Always eager to keep learning, she took many classes during retirement and explored her artistic side as well. Volunteering for the Salvation Army and her faith and were also very important to her. Most at home on a small island in Maine, she reconnected later in life with an old friend who had a cottage on the same lake and became her great love. Together they built a beautiful life. Visiting hours will be held at the Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Massachusetts Ave., CAMBRIDGE, Friday, July 20th from 4 – 8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. John Church, 2254 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge, Saturday, July 21st at 11 AM. Please go directly to church. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services will conclude with burial at Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
